For many in our community, Centura Public Schools still feels like the “new” school. The district was formed in 1967, and the first graduating class walked the stage in 1970. More than 50 years later, the building continues to serve generations of Centura students.
However, no major capital improvements have been made since 1981, and much of the original building infrastructure remains in place.
Today’s schools must meet modern expectations for safety, security, accessibility, and building performance. The proposed modernization plan includes improvements such as a secure entrance and commons area designed to better manage building access, fire safety system updates, ADA accessibility improvements, and upgrades to aging mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems that support the daily operation of the school.
To allow the community to consider these improvements, the Centura Board of Education has called for a $18,950,000 bond election. The proposal focuses on improving safety and security, modernizing critical building systems, and updating learning environments. Honoring the past while preserving Centura Public Schools for future generations of students.
